Approval of KONWIHR projects (2022/1)

We are pleased to announce that from the 2022/1 application round a total of 7 research projects with a total funding volume of 190,000 € have been approved:

• Improving FAIRness of HPC research data – Prof. Stemmer (TU München)
• ALPACA in Florence – first steps towards the Ponte Vecchio”: Porting ALPACA to Intel’s upcoming GPU architecture Ponte Vecchio – Prof. Adams (TU München)
• Porting of Lattice QCD simulation software to GPUs – Prof. Wettig (University of Regensburg)
• Massively parallel solvers for geophysical flow problems with strong viscosity variations – Prof. Rüde (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)
• Continuous Benchmarking for the GHODDESS framework – Prof. Köstler (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)
• HPC mixed precision quantization of encoder-decoder deep neural networks – Prof. Kist (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)
• Optimization of the ALF implementation of the auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo algorithm: porting to GPUS and symmetry considerations – Prof. Assaad (Uni Würzburg)

In addition, the University of Regensburg was granted a new extended basis project (HPC-Stützpunkt). The University of Regensburg pursues the goal to support the scientists of the university in their application for
computing time at the NHR centres as well as to support them in porting and optimizing their applications. Local scientific expertise lies in particular in the area of numerical particle physics. With this expertise, the University of Regensburg aims to become part of the planned Bavaria-wide network for user support.
